Definition
Hypoglycemia means low blood glucose. In nursing scenarios, it can cause sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion, weakness, seizure or loss of consciousness.
Why it matters for NCLEX
NCLEX questions often test whether students connect diabetic medications, meal timing and neurological changes. Severe hypoglycemia is urgent because the brain depends on glucose.
Clinical example
A diabetic patient who becomes confused, diaphoretic and weak after receiving insulin needs prompt glucose assessment and treatment according to protocol.
